Energy Costs – and how to reduce these

April 11th, 2017 by

Energy/Electricity will escape out any opening – Doorways, Windows, Gaps in seals…

…so one way to reduce our Energy $ is to concentrate on these areas.

Can we really stop precious controlled air escaping out our facility, or the hot/cold air ingress from outside?

Specializing in your doorways, Concept has many products aimed at reducing your Electricity costs through better doorway control! Stripcurtains, a light duty thermal barrier which doesn’t affect visibility or ease of access – idea for retail shop entrances or food prep entrances – Also helps keep the flies out!

Air Curtains, an air barrier created by a strong flow of air from a wall mounted unit – idea for shop entrances where it is not possible to have a stripcurtain or closing door – Also limits insect ingress.

For the heavier duty operations, PVC swing doors are an effective barrier and also very easy access, Rapid Roll Doors offer automated access whilst offering one of the best barriers against energy/electricity escaping.

Maintaining Temperature – What’s the best options?

February 28th, 2017 by

Doors by Concept productsWhat really is the best way to keep our facilities cool in summer and warm in winter? We simply can’t ignore the extra energy costs it takes to cool down the room after a blast of summer heat just blew in the doorway, and in a busy doorway – this will affect the efficiency of the entire room!

At Concept we research this, we see many different facilities with many and varied applications. All are trying to do the same thing – Keep the inside at the temperature you need! So what do you use? what are the best options?

  • Air Curtains and or Strip Curtains – think of your Shop Entrances, these really are the two options! Either a Strip Curtain or Air Curtain will simply install alongside your existing door and provide that extra barrier of control! Picture your Shop/Facility with less insects, less dust and much more effective control of inside temperature – and decrease in energy costs!

  • High Speed Doors – perfect for forklift use/ coolroom doorways – these doors open and shut at record speed allowing very little air to exit/enter the room! Commonly used by food manufacturing and cold storage facilities, these doors really do work for decreasing insect and dust ingress, but mainly temperature control – large facilities can save thousands on energy costs!

  • High Speed Freezer Doors – a step better again, just like your High Speed Rapid Doors, but with all the thermal properties to control your freezer temperatures! The bigger the temperature change through your doorway, the bigger the cost to control it. A truly effective solution, the energy savings with the correct system, can pay for itself many times in a year!

Many more products, Coolroom doors, PVC Swing Doors, and a very extensive range of options to the High Speed Door Range, also can help maintain temperature. At Concept we are convinced that no one product will fix all problems. custom solutions, application based products and site specific recommendations are the 3 key ways to get the most effective temperature control at your site.

4 Common Coolroom Headaches!

October 25th, 2016 by
  1. Out of Control Temperatures – Resulting in Product lossHeavy Industrial Stripcurtain

  2. Plant or Equipment Failure – Resulting in Production Downtime

  3. Cold Air Leaking – Resulting in Soaring Energy Costs

  4. Unsafe Facilities – Resulting in possible Employee Harm

It’s a fact, all Cold Storage Facilities, indeed even Food Production Facilities, Distribution and any facility with temperature controlled areas, can have these headaches! Some have them under control, others escalate to more like migraines…

With the Facility Managers at the focus of our thoughts, we have given you some action points to work through to help reduce, maybe even cure these headaches. Although there is no preventative for human error, we can still do what is in our power to do & minimise risk/exposure & also reduce our ongoing costs.

See Concepts guide to resolve below;

  1. Analyse your entrances and exits to your Facility, where is Air Escaping or warm air entering? – this in most cases will be a very large percentage of the reason why temperature is now out of control

Ask these questions:

  • Is there any open areas where air is escaping?
  • Are my current doors and seals capable to hold in the temperature?
  • Are staff leaving doors open? Watch them actually in production/ loading time.
  • Are the doors actually operating effectively – to keep control for maximum possible time?
  • How much wasted ‘open-time’ is there on each doorway? Watch a standard shift & analyse.
  • Concept has developed specialist door systems/ seals/ designed to reduce costs & increase control on doorways – ask us what we can save you!
  1. Review your equipment and plant areas – is something struggling to keep up, or almost at the end of its life? Is there wear points or damaged areas that could cause breakdown? Preventative Maintenance is more cost-effective than breakdown reactions.
    • Do you have a documented site plan with marked traffic flow & traffic segregation?
    • Are all staff aware & following this plan?
    • Is it practical & actually working on your site?
    • Do it now – before something happens. We can help if you are not sure where to from here
  2. Check your doorway or dock seals. Air leakage is commonly through an old dock or door frame with broken or insufficient seals. Feel around the doorway/dock openings, can you feel air escaping or entering?
  3. Review your equipment and plant areas – is something struggling to keep up, or almost at the end of its life? Is there wear points or damaged areas that could cause breakdown? Preventative Maintenance is more cost-effective than breakdown reactions.
  4. Run through your safety procedures:
    • Is equipment up-to-date with current safety requirements?
    • Do forklift operators have sufficient room to safely manoeuvre?
    • Do pedestrians have safe marked out walkways/ access areas?
    • Do you have a documented site plan with marked traffic flow & traffic segregation?
    • Are all staff aware & following this plan?
    • Is it practical & actually working on your site?
    • Do it now – before something happens. We can help if you are not sure where to from here.

Simply don’t have time?

Or, not sure where to start?

Concept offers a no-obligation site assessment, this could be a good way for you to review and analyse your facilities possible weak points.

We look forward to working with you & helping resolve your headaches on site.
